Grassroots gatherings in good company

Launching in summer 2026, The Commons is open to all Chicagoans. No matter your background or experience in the arts, you’re invited to participate in shaping the role that arts and culture play in the city and beyond. The idea is that artists won’t just have a seat at the table; they will set the table — defining the priorities, strategy, and path forward.

Artists are the foundation

Convening in partnership across creative practices and neighborhoods, meetings will include a diverse cross-section of Chicagoans to discuss hyperlocal topics affecting creative communities. The Commons will follow the format of “fellowship” meetings to ensure that all voices can join conversations.

Gatherings will shed light on the current state of the arts and cultural landscape; provide workshops, learning, networking, and grant-making opportunities; and offer space and time to meet with local community leaders, political representatives, and candidates.

Who should join?

Anyone with an enthusiastic commitment to discuss ideas, organize, network, learn, co-create, and work in partnership with others to champion Chicago’s arts and cultural ecosystem and fellow artists.

Bring a friend!

The more people attend, the more vibrant and useful these meetings will be. Collective work only works when there’s a collective.

The Commons is a grassroots forum for artists and creatives interested in advocacy, resource building, and civic participation.
